I am Maher Hatoum, a PhD candidate in Process Engineering and Environment, holding a B.Eng in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Petroleum Engineering, with over six years of professional experience in chemical, biotechnological, and environmental engineering. I have extensive experience in waste management and treatment, managing and delivering industrial consultancy and research projects, overseeing all stages from feasibility studies to design, operation, and handover, while ensuring efficiency, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
My PhD research focuses on the integration of Process Systems Engineering and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to optimize bioprocesses and industrial systems. I develop and simulate processes to improve technical performance, environmental efficiency, and economic feasibility, applying multi-objective optimization to balance operational performance, cost, and sustainability. My work addresses all three dimensions of sustainability, environmental, economic, and social, ensuring that process design and operation are both eco-efficient and socially responsible. Through this approach, I aim to contribute to circular economy solutions and sustainable industrial practices. I am passionate about bridging academic research and practical sustainability solutions, and I am eager to collaborate with professionals, gain mentorship, and contribute actively to impactful sustainability projects.
I am excited to join Sustainability Global and contribute to the Climate Action and Energy Transition & Renewable Energy pillars, where I can engage with a global network of professionals committed to advancing sustainable solutions for climate and energy challenges. Sustainability, to me, means designing and implementing processes that reduce environmental impact, improve energy efficiency, and promote socially responsible practices. Over the years, I have witnessed how technical innovation, when guided by sustainability principles, can transform industrial systems and create meaningful environmental impact.
Sustainability Global represents an opportunity to collaborate across disciplines and regions, exchanging knowledge with experts and peers who share the same commitment to sustainability. Being part of this community will allow me to broaden my perspective, contribute to impactful projects, and further develop my ability to design innovative, environmentally responsible solutions that can support the transition to cleaner energy and a low-carbon future. I am eager to take part in initiatives that not only advance technology but also contribute to global climate mitigation and energy sustainability.
